Hershey's Sugar Free Candies have fewer calories compared to their "regular" counterparts. Hershey's Sugar Free Jolly Rancher Hard Candy contain sugar alcohols such as Isomalt to replace the sugar. These sugar alcohols are digested more slowly and generally cause a relatively small rise in blood sugar levels. For people with diabetes, this is preferable to the sharper increase in blood sugar associated with products containing sugar.
Love the taste of these—very much like regular Jolly Ranchers. Unlike regular Jolly Ranchers, they don’t break your teeth when you accidentally bite down. That’s a plus for me, since I seem incapable of not biting down! Like many sugar-free candies, they do have sugar alcohols, so if you’re sensitive to them or aren’t used to them, take caution. But if you’re OK with the sugar alcohols, these are great. One of my favorite candies.
Gave me digestion problems; ate maybe 5 or 6 pieces at once (also ate other sugar substitute foods around the same time, so just too much all at once). Will not buy these again though taste (especially green apple) is really good. To bad my digestion doesn't like them.
Sugar alcohols (isomalt and polyglucitol syrup - sugar substitutes) are slowly metabolized carbohydrates that generally cause only a small rise in blood glucose levels.
