Dixie Diner
Carb Counters Texas Cornitas
Delicious "corny" flavor, great with salsa, dips or just
super to snack on as is. If you love the flavor of corn chips but
realize that they are just not worth the carbs, Texas Cornitas will fill this
hole in your diet. All natural, these twice baked chips have no artificial
ingredients or preservatives and are so tasty. Cornitas are an excellent source
of "good" fats and other healthy ingredients including potassium. Try crumbling
them over salads or chili too. Enjoy!

| Not bad for a corn chip substitute. Not very salty. Best with a low carb dip or cheese. |

| Dixie Diner has released a number of different products which fit into the category which includes chips, crackers, flatbreads, etc. One thing they all seem to have in common is their texture/consistency. I predict that for most of them, if you dislike them this will be the primary reason. The problem is they are tough when you bite into them and as you chew them they essentially crumble slowly into a dry powder in your mouth. This is an odd sensation and for many, I suspect, it will put them off. I do not have a major problem with it, however, so at most I am only going to dock the product one star for the strange nature of the texture. While I might have hoped that the Cornitas were going to be something like a Frito's corn chip, they are not so there is no point making that comparison. They definitely have a corn flavor but because the corn must be "diluted" in order to lower the carb count, the flavor is a little subtle. I found, however, that once I gave them a chance I rather liked them -- there is a slightly peppery taste to them as well that I find appealing, so the texture, for me, is the biggest drawback. One way I used them which I rather enjoyed was crumbling them with a wooden tenderizing mallet (I put them in a plastic bag first) and then adding them to a bowl of chili. The flavor enhanced the chili and it made it thicker which was a plus for me. |

| I don't know what Dixie Diner was thinking when they came out with these 'cornitas'. I've enjoyed most of Dixie Diner's offerings, and rely on them for my basic baking and desserts.
But these things, I doubt even the raccoons will eat them. My experience was that they were dry and tasteless. |
