| As a regular consumer, I wanted to determine which of the CLA manufactures offers the best deal. To make this determination I divided the “cost” by the amount of “CLA grams” in each manufacturers product. The result is price per gram of CLA. NOW’s 180 softgels came out to $0.125 per gram of CLA. Primaforce’s 180 softgels came out to $0.127 per gram of CLA. And, NOW’s 90 softgels came out to $0.139 per gram of CLA. Since each manufacturer stipulates a different daily dosage it is hard to tell which offers the best deal. To get around this problem I used 3.4 grams/day as the daily dosage. Research results have proven that this is a statistically significant dosage level at which the research results were said to be attributable to more than random chance. [Blankson H, Stakkestad JA, Fagertun H, Thom E, Wadstein J, Gudmundsen O. (December 2000). "Conjugated linoleic acid reduces body fat mass in overweight and obese humans.". Journal of Nutrition 130 (12): 2943-2948.] Using 3.4 grams/day as the daily dosage, one could expect to spend the following per month: $12.74 for NOW’s (180 softgels) is $0.125 per gram of CLA;
$12.94 for Primaforce Max CLA is $0.127 per gram of CLA;
$14.15 for NOW’s CLA (90 softgels) is $0.139 per gram of CLA;
$15.30 for Horizon’s Tonalin CLA 1000 mg is $0.150 per gram of CLA;
$22.29 for PBL’s CLA Plus w/ Clarinol is $0.219 per gram of CLA;
$22.65 for Kaizen’s Clarinol CLA 1000 mg is $0.222 per gram of CLA;
$24.01 for Prolab’s CLA is $0.235 per gram of CLA;
$28.26 for AST’s CLA-1000 is $.0277 per gram of CLA;
$28.64 for EAS’s CLA is $0.281 per gram of CLA; and Tonalin CLA-1000 was not considered because it does not define the amount of CLA in its softgels. |
